Germany has elected
On the outcome and reaction of this election I want to give my view, which is a little bit from the CDU perspective. But to point out things right, I didn’t make my cross for the CDU, I just had the opportunity to be guest at the election party. Free beer and food lured me. So I changed my blue jeans and radio active shirt against a decent suite to get among the enemy.
As you might know the election turned out unexpected especially for the CDU, so there wasn’t much parting at the election party. Third worst result for the CDU in their history and same for SPD, the current governing party.
For me it is a clear message that the people had enough from both of them and hoping for better solutions from the smaller parties. Biggest winner is the FDP, their head representative, Guido Westerwelle, also got a lot of applause from the CDU peoples in the party tent, much more than our maybe future female chancellor, Angela Merkel.
They also had some ‘buhh’ yells for the current chancellor, who really shows arrogance and a lack of sense for reality during the interviews. He kept on insisting that the voters still want him as chancellor. But also the heads of the CDU celebrate themselves as victorious. Seems like the SPIN works on the politicians this time.
The biggest shock for me was, that the left populist party “Die Linke/PDS” get more votes than the environmentalists “Die Grünen”.
Now the discussions start who with whom, because the “natural” coalitions CDU with FDP or the current SPD and Grünen didn’t get the necessary majority to form a new parliament. Nobody wants to govern with “Die Linke/PDS”. FDP will not support a government they intended to bring down. If “Die Grünen” joins the CDU and FDP it might be the political end. So maybe it will end up in a big coalition between SPD and CDU, which will be probably the worst.
Or maybe, Angela Merkel will resign, Edmund Stoiber will escape too Bavaria and Gerhard Schröder will be chancellor with a CDU, FDP, Die Linke
“There can be no peace, while the enemies of the chancellor still draw breath”
