Hacking Ruby/Rails with more than an editor
If you want a little bit more than an editor to hack your ruby. You should check out Ruby in Steel. A plugin for VS 2005. It supports Ruby and Rails projects with code folding, coloring, point and click error finding and debugging. The next iteration will offer intelliSense, but this will cost bucks. This sucks. But there is an alternative for the still best IDE imho, eclipse. The Ruby Development Tools (RDT) plugin. Offers same functionality as Steel, except Rails support, but is a free plugin for a free IDE.

Another editor worth checking out is jEdit with the jEdit Ruby Editor Plugin installed. Focused on programmer productivity, the plugin provides method completion and an integrated Ruby documentation viewer:
